Comedy From Scratch is where you go in Westchester County to hear top comics from TV and NYC's major clubs performing long sets on an intimate stage. Past performers include comedians from HBO, Netlfix, Colbert, SNL, the Daily Show, Letterman, the Tonight Show, Comedy Central, and more. Every month, Ben Asher's presents comedy that reaches up into your brain with the force of a fist through the nose.

Every month you can hear some of the most talented comics perform long sets, that other shows don't give them the time to perform. Comedy From Scratch is your chance to get to really watch comedians flex their muscles and hit their stride on stage, at The Idea Kitchen.

Locally-grown comedian Ben Asher presents a tasting of what the area's best stand-up comics are cooking up, at 'Comedy From Scratch' at the Idea Kitchen, every 4th Saturday of the month.

Show at 8:00 PM. Seating at 7:00 PM (bring your food and drink/wine with you and sit down at our tables to eat before the show and pick out your seats!!)

Admission is $25 in advance, and $30 if purchased the day of the show. (Unlike Comedy Clubs, There is NO 2-Drink Minimum at this show)(and there is Free Parking.) BYOB and your own food/snacks/pizza (Half-Time and Sal's Pizza in Mamaroneck, or Nicky's Pizza in Larchmont is recommended!)

A Top 20 Finalist on Season 9 of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, McQueen has also been featured in the A24 film Obvious Child and on AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live. Tweeting Truth to Power: Chronicling Our Caustic Politics, Crazed Times, & The Great Black & White Divide debuted at #1 on Amazon in the Sociology of Race Relations, Sociology and Racial Theory, Slavery and Emancipation History, and Political Humor categories. It is McQueen’s first book.

Jay Nog is a former elementary school teacher and has been entertaining audiences with his rambunctious stand-up comedy since 2004. At first Nog appears scruffy and blunt, but audiences quickly discover his soft side and feel at home with his playful sarcasm. Nog has been featured on MTV, MLB Network, in Talent in Motion magazine as one of NYC’s “top up-and-coming comics”, Nat Geo’s Brain Games, MSG Network, and as a guest host on AMC’s “Movie Date Night”. Nog has opened for national headliners Jim Florentine, Dom Irrera, Adam Ferrrara, Rich Vos and Patrice O’Neal. He was a writer for MTV2’s Guy Code, featured on AOL sports show 2 Point Lead, and is the man behind the viral video 5 Hours Walking around NYC as a Jets Fan. He is also the host of The Prank Call Podcast and co-hosts the live comedy show Paid or Pain.

Ben Asher, a writer and comedian from New York, is known for his “brave,” confrontational material, and his skills as a “brilliant joke writer” among fellow comedians. He performs regularly at comedy venues and colleges throughout the metropolitan area, East Coast, and Europe. Audiences are always quick to share their appreciation of Ben’s style of sardonic irreverence and absurd, satiric wit in which he doesn’t just dissect language and taboos - he explodes them. “What Ben Asher says makes me laugh, even though I feel like I shouldn’t."

In 2022 Ben recorded a half-hour special "An Intimate Evening of Provocative and Deranged Humor" at The Nest rock club, in Brooklyn, NY. Also, in 2022, Ben's show Arthur Avenue Comedy was featured in the NY Comedy Festival as one of only two comedy shows in Bronx. In 2014, Ben traveled to Iceland to headline in the Iceland Comedy Festival. He was also the finalist in the 2014 Funniest Jewish Comedian Competition. In 2013 Ben was in the New York Comedy Festival. Ben has been a guest on Sherrod Small's 'Races Wars' podcast.

Ben currently produces and hosts the weekly Arthur Avenue Comedy show in NYC's Bronx borough, the monthly Comedy From Scratch at The Idea Kitchen, and Slide-In at Slate-Nightclub in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, and has produced and hosts a monthly comedy show in Park Slope, Brooklyn and New York's East Village, DoublePlusGood Comedy, (formerly Nasal Vice! Stand-Up,) where, since 2013, rising comics perform long, 20+ minutes sets, every month. He also co-produces/hosts The Homebrewed Mic, giving New Yorkers a sample of homebrewed beers and comedy.

Talia Reese ditched the exciting world of bankruptcy law to pursue a more stable path as a stand-up comedian, which thrilled her parents to no end. Luckily, her career move has worked out. She regularly performs at the hottest comedy clubs and events in the US and Canada–and soon, Israel! Her jokes have appeared in major news publications and are mentioned frequently on Page Six. The Times of Israel says Talia’s “a rising comedy star who has a polish, panache, and a gift of jab reminiscent of her childhood hero, Joan Rivers.” Her parents were most proud when Talia’s comedy show was called a “Hot Ticket” by the NY Post. Her routines feature personal life stories, from growing up in Great Neck to life as a newly observant Jew, marriage, motherhood, and a unique take on being female in today’s society. A recent surge in interest in her stand-up clip “Female Privilege” has garnered over 350K views on YouTube. Passionate fans are blown away by the irony and intellect behind her jokes.

J-L Cauvin is a veteran stand-up comedian who started his stand-up career while he was a law student at Georgetown. He became an Internet sensation in 2020 with over 30 million views of his impressions and sketch videos, led by his Donald Trump. He has been seen and heard on The Late Late Show, Howard Stern, Marc Maron's WTF podcast, The Adam Carolla Show and ESPN radio. He has 6 stand-up albums to his credit and is recording his first special in October of 2021. He recently made his TV drama debut on season 6 of Showtime’s hit show Billions.

Ashley Austin Morris is an Actor, Comedian and Writer and can be seen in the new CBS hit THE BITE. She’s a regular at New York’s Gotham Comedy Club, West Side Comedy, Stand up NY, New York Comedy Club, and many more clubs and theaters across the country. She has also appeared on AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live. Ashley Recently joined the cast of the soon to be announced Shonda Rhimes series for Netflix and just wrapped The Other Two on Comedy Central. Ashley had a recurring role on A&E’s digital series, Think Tank, and has been featured as a guest star on Murphy Brown (CBS 2018), The Big Bang Theory (CBS), The Good Wife (CBS), Desperate Housewives (ABC), Ugly Betty (ABC), and many more. Rob Ryan, like many comedy greats, hails from Long Island and has taken New York City by storm. After graduating valedictorian from Stony Brook University Rob immediately threw out his degree and relentlessly pursued stand-up comedy. Rob has hit the air waves appearing on “LAUGHS” on FOX and “Gotham Comedy Live” on AXStv performing original stand-up material. He’s also been featured on Radio and Television ads as an hilarious spokesman for “SHEETZ” gas and convenient stores. He is a presence in the New York scene performing nightly at the Broadway and New York Comedy Clubs, The Comic Strip, Gotham and others. Rob recently debuted his one-man Off-Broadway show “Mascot” at the SoHo Playhouse in New York.

Ophira Eisenberg is a Canadian-born standup comedian, writer, and host. She hosted NPR’s comedy trivia show Ask Me Another for 9-years, where she interviewed and played silly games with hundreds of celebrities including Sir Patrick Stewart, Awkwafina, Rosie Perez, Yo-Yo Ma, Bob The Drag Queen, Nick Kroll, Chelsea Handler, Jim Gaffigan, Michael C. Hall, and so many others. As a comic and a parent to a 6-year-old, Ophira is the host of the new comedy podcast Parenting Is A Joke co-produced by iHeart Radio and Pretty Good Friends Productions.

She can be seen live, regularly headlining across the United States, Canada, and Europe delivering her unique blend of standup and storytelling to a loyal fan base of smart, irreverent comedy lovers. Calvin Cato got his comedic start with the Wesleyan University stand-up comedy troupe Punchline and then transferred his unique brand of humor to New York City in 2006. He has performed all across the United States and has even crossed the border into Canada. His television appearances include the Game Show Network, Oxygen’s My Crazy Love, National Geographic’s Brain Games, and an unaired pilot for Vice Media called Emergency Black Meeting. In 2017, Calvin was named one of Time Out New York’s Queer Comics of Color to Watch Out For. His comedy has been featured in numerous festivals including San Francisco Sketchfest, Austin’s Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, Brooklyn Pride, Gotham Storytelling Festival, FlameCon, and the Women in Comedy Festival. In addition, you may have heard him overshare on popular podcasts including Keith and The Girl, The Beige Philip Show, RISK!, Guys We F*cked, Las Culturistas, Tinder Tales or the video game themed podcast he co-produced called the Playable Characters Podcast (featured in AV Club and Splitsider). Most recently, Calvin was published in Kweendom, an anthology of essays by queer comedians and entertainers. Published in early 2021, the book is available on Amazon and other online book retailers.
